What should you get for someone going into the army?

My boyfriend is going into the army, and I want to make him a boot camp graduation gift basket. I work at a sporting goods store, so I was thinking stuff like a combat knife, a handheld GPS, and stuff like that. Do they need like frame packs or anything like that?

What would someone like after bootcamp….hmmm…

At the risk of sounding simplistic — I suspect a six-pack of his favorite beer and a blo job would be well appreciated.

The Army will give him all the gear stuff that he needs. Victory Soldier

Im sure he’d be pretty embarassed if you brought him a basket to graduation. lol. And forget the knife, he has the best of the best already issued to him. I’d say just a nice HUG would do just fine. jizzin5

A religious pendant is always good, if that suits them. A small pad to write stuff on. A digital watch is good. GPS probably not needed, but if you did get a Garmin, they are the best. Stay away from the Magellan Triton series. Those big back packs seem to be a pretty big hit. Joseph

You have such a big heart to ask this. My suggestion is anything that can be small, compact, and easily used. His unit will most likely determine if he can have a knife…but things like a small address book to jot down friends addresses, mp3 player, batteries, and anything that can help him get through the spaces of bordom. The Army is full of hurry-up and wait moments. These are the times when he makes new friends and shares some interests. Things that are small are easily packed away and carry less wieght. For several months ahead, he will be living from a bag in temporary quarters. When I left for the Army, my best items were a pocketsized address book, a small walkman radio, and some pictures of friends back home.
A little gets you through alot. So remember, anything personal you can send that he can keep close while he starts his long training will be the most appreciated.
Hats off to you for supporting your troop! DarinG
