I have owned malinois for over 30 years and have never heard or a “sniffing line” malinois. Could it be that the dog comes out of parents that were detection dogs? And what is a Tarro line, you have my curiocity peaked now.
Please, provide more info if you could…

EDIT: Whatever you do, DO NOT listen to the poster below me, Royal something, they have NO idea what they are talking about! greekman

The sniffing belgian malinois is a tracker/guard dog. The sporting line is more of a hunter. The dog you will be getting is an excellent guard dog and tracker. Could easily be trained in search and rescue too. They are good pets if socialized young, but do not do well around strangers. theroyalkitty

The only difference I know of is the breed differences- I would guess the breeder may mean that the breed line she breeds is used for sniffing- I would be sure to ask the breeder all questions you have. These are very smart dogs- and need a good owner who knows what they are doing. I have a vet friend who is a US Army vet- and malinois are used by the MP’s- even with this level of training and handling- he was attacked and bitten by one- during an exam- with the trainer right there! doc’s wife
