Why Do You Think America Should Have Universal Health Care Coverage?
My reasons:
1) Medical expenses are the #1 cause of financial bankruptcy.
2) Poor people without insurance go to Emergency Rooms, where, by law, they cannot be denyed treatment. This is ultimately payed by taxpayers, and is more expensive.
3) The burden of health care shouldn’t be on employers.

Not only is it being payed by the taxpayers, it is also being paid by those that do have insurance. JMB
Because the Government is more efficient at running businesses.
Oh, wait… Capitalist
Also, since we’re already paying for it in multiple ways, it’s not going to be more expensive. If anything, we’d see a personal saving. Jack X
yes, but only for those 21 and younger.

we shouldn’t!
1) people die waiting for treatment in other countries
2) government always screws things up
3) most of the 47 million uninsured either CHOOSE not to pay for their coverage or they are illegally here San Jose
Yes, there is already more than enough money spend on our current system, the one where we rank really low in quality to run a great system. We can spend even less and have a great system, maybe even rank up in the top 3 in quality. That would be nice. TheMom
I don’t, I don’t think anyone has a right to take my money so they can get free Viagra or any other treatment. They can take care of themselves and pay their own bills real Americans do. Mr. Phil
1. It will significantly raise taxes for everyone, including the poor.
2. It will add a layer of government bureaucracy to our country.
3. Laws may be passed to force people to live certain ways since it will be in the government’s best interests to keep costs down.
4. Less people will become doctors and nurses because of caps on fees, salaries and being forced to enter specialties that have shortages.
5. People won’t be able to get medical care when they want and need it and will be placed on waiting lists instead.
By the way, your No. 2 argument is really an argument AGAINST socialized medicine since those costs you cite will only rise when everyone is going to emergency rooms for “free” treatment. robot_hooker2
if we’ve got 700 billion for stupid mismanaged companies. WE have money for universal care. the d
agreed.
also people should advocate to prevent the spread of infectious disease for people who cant afford the treatment
also privitized healthcare is more concered with profit thus they wwant you to pay the maximum amount for the minimum treatment
so they want you to buy expensive drugs when its less efficient Tijise M
Why should Americans think they are ‘entitled’ to universal health care? Look up the term universal.
There are people in the world who can’t even go to see a doctor because there’s not one anywhere close.
There are people in the world who are dying from malnutrition and you want universal health care?
There are people who have no choice but to drink water that contains diseases and you want universal health care.
People in the US don’t realize just how good they have it. And yet they want more. namsaev
1. I have never heard of anyone…. anyone filing bankruptcy solely because of medical bills…. ever…. please show me a case of this happening.
2. You’re right by law they are treated, in most facilities the costs are put on the people who have insurance. In other facilities the costs are put to the taxpayers. This is what makes it expensive. If we are paying for health care for everyone wouldn’t it be more expensive?
3. The burden of health care has been put on employers because people refuse to realize health care is their responsibility and that they can get insurance even if their employer does not offer it- private policies work very well.
I do not think America should have universal health care coverage. Mrs. Herrera
NO, too costly due to the bureaucracy of government. That leads me to say to reduce health care costs, return health care to the free market. Get government OUT of regulating health care plans. That way we can buy a ‘Chevy’ plan, instead of a ‘Cadillac’ plan. Government plans will be available to those who have congenital/child related medical needs that bar them from getting insurance as an adult. Tax credits should be available to purchase insurance. Currently law prevents myself from contributing to the Health Savings Account at work because I do not buy the junky plan from my employer, another regulation that drives up health care costs for my home. Bobbi
I don’t. Did I say that? Let me correct myself if I did. I DO NOT THINK WE SHOULD HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE.
Why you ask?
Because the government gets the entire purse string. At 1st this may appear like the utopian society some dreamed about. But sooner or later the government starts to control spending by deciding who gets what procedures, or who is worth what expense.
Why would we use our freedom to give our freedom away to the government. I know some refuse to believe this is even remotely possible.
Don’t you get it. You are owned by the government with universal health care. Your life is literally in their hands.Game over.
As it is right now you go to the doctor and you and your doctor decide what is best and the government is not involved. I don’t want to government involved in any way in my health decisions. Dave
It is humane to help someone that is sick and in need of care. No one likes to be sick, injured, hurt- we all want a speedy recovery to get better. If the government was looking after us, cause we elect them into office, we would have universal health and dental insurance, and big business bailouts would be out of the question. During my businesses slow months, no one picks up my tab. If my business started to go under cause the government wouldn’t just give me a bonus plus capital and tell me better luck next time. You don’t lend money that you don’t have to lend. They lend money that doesn’t even exist. They have us sign a contract for a loan and we owe the money as if it were in our hands… they profit from the interest on our loan, and we go into debt… debt cause we pay all kinds of tax, and we pick up the tab for the people that can’t afford as much as we can… I am broke, in need of health insurance… I fall just between the lines of having to much for state health coverage for my kids and being able to actually afford it myself.
