Who do you think is controlling the debate over health care?
The big insurance companies? Special Interest groups? Congress?
How come health care plans ALL seen to fail no matter how is pushing for them ( Obama, Clinton )?
And if health care for everyone is not attainable, then what do we do when the costs go so high NONE of us can afford health care?

And you are right about the cost of doing nothing.
Health care is already 1/6 of our spending.
The baby boomers are hitting retirement & having medical problems associated with aging.
DOING NOTHING IS THE WORSE POSSIBLE CHOICE!
So, let’s take a look at what our ‘horrible’ government has in store for us.
FIRST OF ALL, THERE WILL BE NO NATIONALIZATION OF HEALTH CARE!
[I go to the Dallas VA Medical Center and the government doesn’t even run THAT!]
There is NO “OBAMA CARE” The plan[s] are being built by congress.
The ONLY THING THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO DO IS ADD AN OPTION:
NON-PROFIT INSURANCE FOR THE POOR & UNEMPLOYED
MORE CHOICE DOES NOT EQUATE WITH ‘TAKEOVER’!
There are 45 million Americans who have NO health care options except Emergency Rooms!
The USA is 37TH in HEALTH CARE!
These are NOT my idea of the best!
THE WORST POSSIBLE CHOICE IS TO DO NOTHING!
Health care costs are:
Increasing 2-3 times faster than wages
Currently eating up 18% of our money
AND, WILL DESTROY OUR ECONOMY UNLESS WE FIX IT!
Want to know WHO DOESN’T want ANY CHANGE?
THE INSURANCE COMPANIES!
THEY EAT 40% OF EVERY HEALTH CARE DOLLAR.
For what we are already paying, WE COULD INSURE EVERY MAN, WOMAN & CHILD IN AMERICA WITH ZERO DEDUCTIBLE, ZERO COPAY COVERAGE!
OK, SO HOW WILL THEY PAY FOR IT?
>DRUG DISCOUNTS
>ELIMINATING WASTE
>LOCKING UP PEOPLE WHO COMMIT FRAUD
>CONCENTRATING ON PREVENTATIVE CARE
[Currently, the only option for the poor is the E.R. at county hospitals and that’s THE MOST EXPENSIVE CARE THERE IS!]

Yes, there are special interests behind both sides of the debate but you know there are also people who realize that the constitutional authority for the government to take over healthcare does not exist.
Our Founders were very smart and clearly defined the role of government and founded a balanced system of government between anarchy and tyranny, and government healthcare is a step in the direction towards tyranny. Captain Awesome

Obama on one side and the HMOs on the other are the main ones controlling the debate.
It tends to fail because the HMOs have more money and use it to spread misinformation and rally people around it.
Rates won’t get to the point where nobody can afford them, that’s not how monopolies (or oligopolies in this case) work. They set rates at a profit maximizing level, which is well above fair market value. That creates a shortage, but the people who do buy health insurance pay enough to make up for the people who can’t afford it. If they raise the price beyond that, they lose profits. They won’t do that (although the drug companies also try to raise their prices to a profit maximizing level which increases the profit maximizing price of health insurance even further, so it’s quite expensive).
The public option is a non-profit option that will set it’s rates at a fair market price, forcing the private companies to do likewise or risk losing customers. A non-profit alternative is important for competition in any industry that naturally functions in oligopolies or monopolies due to the immense barriers to entry and other restrictions. Joe Finkle

There are all sorts of special interests, including all those people who own stock in health insurance companies, hospital and nursing home corporations, pharmaceutical companies, etc.
To a lot of American people, health care is already unaffordable. Even the cost of health insurance alone is astronomically high. It shouldn’t take such a big percentage of people’s income and it shouldn’t influence the decisions people make about where to work. Pascha
