What impact does Obama’s health care policy have on doctors?

Intentionally left blank asked:

Some doctors are already not taking Medicare patients, or going to cash-only business because of low reimbursements from Medicare and the high amount of bureaucracy. While some may see this as unethical behaviour by the doctors, they do have to pay off their $100s of thousands in med school debt and justify the 100-hour work weeks in residency. How would Obama keep the best doctors in a universal health care system?

doctors make enough money what the fuck do you care? Natalie H

None, except they may make more money. There would be a reduction (if not an elimination) in malpractice insurance, they can pay off their loans through community service, and they’d have more costumers. TheOtherGuy

Doctors are gonna have to fire their PA cause their taxes are gonna go up soo much! He won’t be able to pass his health care plan anyway cause it is too expensive. Big Luke’s Used Cars

Study Canada’s health care system. Better yet ask them why they come to the United States for surgery rather than waiting 9 months in Canada. Kalei o puuwai

Medical costs are too high, and are rising far quicker than inflation. This must be brought down, including the doctors. michaelstjohn2001

that’s just not going to happen. Socialized medicine is detrimental to the quality of health care, and it definitely isn’t free. Perla

The best doctors are not necessarily the most greedy ones.

For example, my daughter is graduating from a top med school this year, after four years undergrad in the Ivy League. She’s near the top of her class, too.

For her it isn’t a financial transaction of hours and dollars in, ride the gravy train the rest of the way.

My best guess at this point is that the best doctors–from a doctor point of view–might be attracted to facilities with the best equipment, the best research, the best atmosphere for their specialties and the best patient populations for them to show off their talents.

As for the rest, let ‘em eat cake. nora22000

    Doctors will have no choice.

Plus Doctors will be assigned in areas they live and work.

So, the poor and middle Class will get the worse doctors their are.

Most doctors will specialize so they do not have to take regular family Practice.

Less People will choose be become doctors, Causing a Shortage of Doctors. Meaning the poor and middle Class will have less doctors and The waiting time days or weeks to get to see one.

Doctors will be overwhelmed leading to Poor Care. Me h

  10. Vaughn says:

I think the best impact would be the fact that, if almost everyone is covered in some way, doctors won’t have to weight their medical advice with the patient’s ability to pay.

According to Obama’s plan, everyone gets to keep the doctors and health plans they have now, so nothing changes there. However, a ‘group plan’ would be established for people who don’t have insurance through their employers–one that, like when you get a good job, doesn’t reject those with preexisting conditions.

The McCain plan does nothing to help people who have preexisting conditions. It only gives a tax credit–$2500 per person, or $5000 per family–to help cover that health care. Since his plan will also tax the health care benefits we get from our employers, we’ll need it. Vaughn

You never can keep the best doctors in a socialized health care system. More physicians will go to cash only practices.. you are right, many already do so because of decreased Medicare reimbursements. This will only get worse. Many physicians will retire early, change careers or leave the country.

As Reagan once said regarding socialized health care, “everyone HAS healthcare, but nobody GETS it.” You a rasist!

  12. WhatBrain? says:

By forcing them to be government bureaucrats in order to keep their medical license. With the way things are going, is there any wonder that fewer and fewer doctor students are selecting general care? We all suffer with socialized medicine – few will choose medicine at all with the extreme difficulty, long years of study, slavery internships, and high stress without hope of high pay and new medicines will cease to be developed.

The bottom line is that he cannot – the best doctors will not exist; they will be doing other things that pay up to their talents. WhatBrain?
